Orania.Berlin: Boutique Hotel with a Kreuzberg Soul

Orania.Berlin was designed by hotelier Dietmar Mueller-Elmau, owner of the renowned Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps, and has been operated by Jennifer and Philipp Vogel since 2017. What emerged is no ordinary city hotel. The house in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district offers 41 individually designed rooms and suites in a listed Art Deco building. The interior design combines local craftsmanship, subtle oriental influences, casual elegance, warm lighting, and natural materials from Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. Those who check in here don’t just get a room, but a perspective on the city.

The rooms are eclectic and slightly bohemian in style, yet lean towards extravagance in comfort. The furniture is not a mishmash of vintage pieces, but design classics by Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio. The mattresses are handcrafted by Schramm, and Nespresso machines and Samsung flatscreens with Apple TV are standard. Additionally, dogs are welcome throughout the hotel, including in rooms and public areas.

Cuisine, Bar, and Salon: The Heart of the House

Live concerts take place five days a week at the Orania.Restaurant. Gourmets and globetrotters will find exceptional culinary art and attentive service here. Head Chef Philipp Vogel is a master at refining the essential through different preparation methods, focusing on only three components per dish. His most famous creation is the X-Berg Duck: a four-course menu centered around duck, which has become the hallmark of the house.

If you haven’t had enough after dinner, just stay seated. The Orania.Bar offers exquisite signature cocktails, selected wines, and popular bar classics. The bar features live music almost every evening, a mix of jazz, soul, and world music. Furthermore, the Orania.Salon, with its grand piano and extensive library of books and sheet music, provides a unique event space that fits Berlin, the cultural capital, like no other.
