Heartbreak

12 Locations

Heartbreak is easier to bear in a city full of gentle distractions, and Berlin has plenty. When heartbreak strikes, a comforting cafe, a long walk or a night out with friends can help. This overview gathers Berlin locations to lift the spirits.

Cosy cafes and cake shops offer sweet comfort, while parks, lakes and the vast Tempelhofer Feld give space to clear the head. Saunas and spas soothe, cinemas and bars offer escape, and a dance floor can work wonders. Friends, fresh air and a change of scene are the city's oldest remedies.

Browse the venues below to ease heartbreak across Berlin, from cosy cafes to lively nights out.

After a breakup, this is the hour when someone calmly considers how they might want to look in the future.

It shows international arthouse cinema in original versions, and you can bring wine and Italian food into the auditorium. For heartbreak, remember: Crying looks completely normal in the dark.

The Beauty Lounges are on the third floor, and the gourmet food floor on the sixth. When heartbroken, this sheer size is an advantage: you can wander around without running into anyone.

Dancing has taken place at Chausseestraße 102 in Mitte since 1905, and Ballhaus Berlin is the last dance hall remaining there. The spiral staircase, disco ball, and old table telephones, which were once used to call neighboring tables, have been preserved. Here, especially if you're heartbroken, the main thing that helps is that you don't need to know how to dance or even come with company.
