Dog Run Area

14 Locations

A dog run area lets dogs stretch their legs off the lead, and Berlin sets aside plenty of them. From fenced runs to open forest zones, a dog run area here gives dogs the freedom to play and socialise. This overview gathers Berlin locations for off lead adventures.

Designated areas in Tempelhofer Feld, Grunewald, Hasenheide and the outer forests let dogs roam freely, some fenced, others open. Many have water and shade, and they double as social spots for owners to meet. Rules on lead free zones vary, so a quick check of the signs helps. The lakes add summer swimming for keen swimmers.

On the southern part of Grunewaldsee in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, dog owners will find two spacious sandy beaches where dogs are officially allowed in the water. Grunewaldsee is the only lake in Berlin with designated dog bathing areas, embedded in approximately 800 hectares of leash-free forest.

In Volkspark Hasenheide, on the border between Neukölln and Kreuzberg, there is an enclosed dog garden exclusively for small dogs: a maximum of 35 cm tall, a maximum of 15 kilograms in weight. The dog garden "Kleine Feiglinge" (Little Cowards) offers puppies and small breeds the space they need without larger companions dominating the power play.
