With the opening of the traditional christmas market on the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the running up for Christmas begins. Between November 25. and 05.01.2020 the visitors of City West's christmas market between Breitscheidplatz and Wittenbergplatz will follow the lure of 100 lovingly decorated market stalls and 70 fair entertainers to indulge into the true spirit of Christmas. Anything you might desire can be found here: christmas tree ornaments, hand-made toys, holiday decorations and handiwork from all over Germany. The smallest ones will have a blast with ginger bread, baking christmas cookies and of course meeting with Santa Claus who is waiting with presents in his hut for visitors big and small every day between 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
On the culinary front the christmas market has a lot of seasonal specialities to offer, too. Try some Schmalzkuchen, Germknödel and Thuringian Rostbratwurst and wash them down with one the many hot wine creations.
Taking part for the first time this year is the gourmet restaurant in der Hirschstube under the leadership of award-winning chef Matthias Buchholtz turning an ordinary christmas market into a full-blown gourmet market. The holiday illumination is one again the work of Berlin light artist Andreas Boehlke who signs not only for the 100 illuminated small christmas trees but also for the giant christmas tree of 24 metres height.
