The Grand Hostel Berlin is housed in a building from 1874 that survived both World Wars without significant damage. High ceilings, stucco, and dark wood characterize the building, which is located on Tempelhofer Ufer directly by the Landwehrkanal. It’s about a hundred meters from Möckernbrücke U-Bahn station (U1, U3, and U7 lines), and bus M41 runs from the main train station to Willy-Brandt-Haus. This favorable location places the hostel conveniently between Kreuzberg and Mitte for school trips, with Checkpoint Charlie and the Jewish Museum just a short walk away. The centerpiece is the Library Bar, furnished like an old English library, a deliberate nod to the 1920s. It hosts DJ nights, beer tastings, and free German courses, providing variety, especially for longer stays. A riverside path runs along the Landwehrkanal in front of the building, and the German Museum of Technology and the Topography of Terror memorial are just a few minutes away, which simplifies daily planning for school trips.

Experience with School Trips and Supervised Quiet Hours

The shared rooms accommodate four to eight beds, with only the eight-bed rooms having a private bathroom. A newly renovated floor features bunk beds with built-in reading lamps and USB ports, while older rooms have freestanding box-spring beds. There are also single and double rooms, each with or without a private bathroom, where beds can be pushed together or separated. In the shared rooms, each bed has a lockable metal locker that can be opened with a keycard. For groups of ten or more, the hostel offers special packages and highlights its extensive experience with school trips: upon request, custom city tours can be arranged, karaoke or cocktail evenings for the class can be booked in the bar, and lunch or dinner is available upon request. Important for teachers are the supervised quiet hours, alcohol served only in consultation with the group leader, and a continuously staffed reception. A bicycle costs 12 Euros per day.
