Passbildautomat Schlesisches Tor

An old black-and-white photo booth from the 60s on Schlesische Straße, right at Schlesisches Tor in Kreuzberg. For 2 Euros, you get four shots that feel like decades-old photo paper and are guaranteed to be more crooked than planned. A first date can hardly start better.
About the Photo Booth at Schlesisches Tor
The photo booth on Schlesische Straße in Kreuzberg is no ordinary photo booth. Spread across the city, there are still about ten of these historic machines, for example on Kastanienallee or Warschauer Straße. However, one of the most beautiful stands on Schlesische Straße, right in Wrangelkiez, the liveliest part of SO36. Four black-and-white photos cost just 2 Euros, a relic from the 1960s that has long achieved cult status.
What also makes the location so strong: the immediate surroundings. Around the Schlesisches Tor subway station, you’ll find street music, restaurants, pubs, and late-night shops nearby. If you want to grab a drink afterwards, this is a good place: For more than 20 years, Ankerklause has been Berlin’s most beautiful harbor pub, even though there’s no actual harbor. It’s located on the Landwehr Canal between Kreuzberg and Neukölln and is a meeting point for a diverse crowd. This makes the neighborhood around Schlesisches Tor one of Berlin’s most interesting date landscapes.
Why is the Photo Booth at Schlesisches Tor a great spot for a first date?
A first date in Berlin is always also a question of location. Anyone who suggests the photo booth at Schlesisches Tor as a meeting point doesn’t need an expensive program or a long plan. You throw in 2 Euros, squeeze onto the worn stool with the other person, draw the curtain, and then there are no limits to your imagination. The result? Four pictures where at least one person has their eyes closed. Nevertheless, or precisely because of this, it works as an icebreaker better than any drink in a bar.
The charm lies in consciously stepping out of your comfort zone. A total of four different motifs fit on one strip, and while waiting for the pictures to come out, you automatically have something to laugh about. This creates closeness without feeling forced. Furthermore, everyone gets a small souvenir of the first date to take home, which simply doesn’t happen during an evening at a café.
If you want to continue afterwards, Wrangelkiez is also the perfect place. Ankerklause on the Landwehr Canal is a trendy meeting spot on the border between Neukölln and Kreuzberg. This living-room-sized pub with a ship atmosphere offers changing acts on the turntables. When the weather is nice, you can sit right above the water. Thus, the photo booth at Schlesisches Tor is not a destination, but the starting shot for an entire evening in Kreuzberg.
