The Finnegan’s close to Schlossstraße in Steglitz is a very authentic Irish pub and restaurant. For thirty years the pub has been run by Gastronomy veteran Colm Costello from Dublin. The pub is located in an old founder building with high ceilings. The warm atmosphere is particularly striking when entering the Finnegan’s that is characterized by the friendly staff and the regular guests. “What Table 4 had today? – Three Guinness and nuts as always”, says Gesine McGee from service who knows her guests and their needs by heart. Due to its somewhat isolated location in the Bergstraße, the pub has few tourists and almost no walk-in customers.

Nevertheless, the traditional pub, who extensively celebrated its 30th anniversary recently cannot complain about a lack of demand. The Finnegan’s is the fanbase of the Steglitz Steel Dart Club “Fins for Fun” and also of Setana Berlin, a Berlin Hurling Team, a kind of Irish Hockey.

The Finnegan’s offers eight different sorts of beers on tap, of course Irish beers is on offer as Murphys, Guinness and Newcastle Ale as well as German beers Köpi, Jever and yeast beer are waiting for thirsty throats. The Finnegan’s is also known for its wide selection of Irish and Scottish whiskeys: e.g. Bushmills and Jameson from Irish Laphroaig. The menu includes original Irish dishes like Shepherd’s Pie, Beef & Kidney ragout or the hot Irish Apple Pie – all homemade. The spare ribs are offered hand marinated and baked and the marinade for the fish is also homemade. There are daily changing stews. The “famous” sandwiches are really popular.

Entertainment is also provided. Every Sunday the Pub at 8pm the pub invites to pub quiz. On the last Sunday of the month the pub quiz in English. Each participant pays one euro and then faces questions from quiz categories like movie or music. Once a month there is a jam session with original Irish folk music, mostly with harp and fiddle.

An integral part of the offer, which is often used by expatriates, is the sports program broadcated on five TVs and a big screen. Major soccer events and special sporting events such as rugby, gaelic football , darts and Hurling are shown. The most crowded day of the year is St. Patrick’s Day. Also the Christmas and New Year celebrations with buffet are very popular.

By the way: The name of the pub is a tribute to the novel “Finnegan’s Wake”, the last work of the great Irish author from Dublin, James Joyce.
