Today you can find there the official Berlin Wall Memorial which was inaugurated on 13 August 1998.

Part of the Wall Memorial is a documentation centre, the Chapel of Reconciliation and – still fairly new – since December 2009 a visitor centre on Bernauer Straße. The new outside area in the former border strip shows on the example of Bernauer Straße how the border fortifications and the Wall worked.
